Tips on Choosing Your Practice Area

Welcome to the Gambit Lawyers Blog! In our firm blog post, I wanted to talk about something pretty important. When starting a law firm, there are many things to ultimately consider – from choosing a business form to creating a website to marketing to get clients. One of the first things you must consider is the type of areas you will practice. While you’re free to choose any area, it can be a daunting task. Below are two tips to help you:

Experience
You can choose your practice area based on your own personal experience. This could be a practice area you worked in extensively for years. It can also be based on what you did during law school – for example, your work in a clinic.

Interest/Passion
You can also choose a practice area based on your interest. If you worked so hard to become a lawyer (3 years of law school, passing a grueling bar, spending lots of time and money), it’s only fair that you choose an area for which you have extreme passion.
